Article: Cyprus President Rejects Turkish Cypriot

Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides said here today that the Greek Cypriot side will not participate in military talks between the commanders of the Cypriot National Guard and the Turkish forces in Cyprus if the so-called commander of the Turkish Cypriot forces takes part in the talks.

The president made the remarks one day after U.S. permanent representative to the U.N. Madeleine Albright told a press conference in New York that Turkish Cypriot participation in the military talks is a "subject under discussion" following a request to that effect by the Turkish Cypriot side.
