Article: China to Clean Liaohe River in Five to Ten Years

A high-ranking Chinese official today promised to clean the Liaohe River in northeast China in five to ten years.

The State Council has listed the river as the priority in the next five year's pollution-control scheme, said State Councillor Song Jian at a working conference on pollution-control of the Liaohe River.

Liaohe river flows through northeast China's Liaoning and Jilin provinces, and north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The river basin, covering an area of 220,000 square kilometers, has a population of 30 million.
