Article: Lebanon's Agricultural Cooperative Associations

Cooperative Associations, which used to be an effective mode of production in Lebanon's agriculture, are declining, threatening a real crisis in the whole sector whose products comprised 13 percent of the total exports in 1992.

Agricultural experts attributed the decline to the lack of organized and balanced official support which has left the agricultural sector short of ways to tap its potentialities.

Lebanon's unique topography makes only about 38 percent of land area arable, and confines cultivation to around 22 percent in the absence of full irrigation.
