Article: High Spending Reported for Nepali Students Abroad

Nepali students studying at universities abroad are spending much more money than the country's prestigious state-run Tribhuvan University, the Kathmandu Post reported today.

It said students going abroad for self-financed studies took away from Nepal a hefty amount of 9 million U.S. dollars last year, equivalent to 513 million rupees, more than 2.5 times the annual budget of the Tribhuvan University.

According to the Education Ministry, nearly 4,900 Nepali students have gone overseas for higher education since 1991 and 560 students have left the country this year. The Foreign Exchange Department ...
