Article: Hutu Rebels Kill 40 Villagers in Burundi

Hutu rebels killed 40 villagers in Burundi's southwest province of Bururi Friday, said spokesman of the Burundian army Lieutenant-Colonel Isaie Nibizi in the Burundian capital of Bujumbura today.

"The attack took place in the commune of Burambi. They killed and burned the houses. The victims were mostly those who could not flee, as women, children and the elderly," said Isaie Nibizi quoted by Agence France Presse (AFP). Burambi is about 50 kilometers south of Bujumbura.

Meanwhile, Radio Burundi said that many of the houses in the village were burned down, and cattle were taken away by the attackers. Most of the inhabitants of the village have fled to the town of Rumonge, about 20 kilometers ...
