Article: Bangladesh to Repeal Indemnity Ordinance

The Bangladeshi government has completed preliminary preparations for repealing the infamous indemnity ordinance that blocked the trial of the killing of the nation's father, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib.

Mujib, the first president of Bangladesh and father of the present Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was killed along with his wife and sons on August 15, 1975, in a bloody military coup.

In order to block any trial of the killing, an indemnity ordinance was promulgated later by Khandaker Mushtaque Ahmed who became president after the assassination of Mujib.
