China's family planning work will focus on the populous provinces and poor areas in the middle and western parts of the country in 1997, said a family planning official today.

Addressing a national conference on family planning, which opened here today, Zhang Weiqing, vice-minister of the State Family Planning Commission, said that the education of the family planning workers should be improved, while the scientific and technological undertakings for family planning be ungraded this year.
