The recent drop of the Caspian Sea's water level has prompted
scientists to believe that the amount of water at the salt-water
lake
fluctuate periodically.
The Caspian Sea, the world's largest in-land lake of the kind,
was
found to be down an average of 20 centimeters in water level last
year, reversing the continuous rise in previous years.
The discovery, said a report in the fortnightly Ecological
Messenger magazine published here today, was made by scientists
working with Azerbaijan's State Hydrology Committee.
Based on the new finding, S. Velelv, an Azerbaijani geophysicist,
assumed that the phenomenon could be the start of a trend of lower
water level through the middle of next century. ...
