Article: Iranian Foreign Minister Leaves for New York

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati left here for New York early this morning to attend the 19th World Earth Summit, but U.S.-Iranian ties might be on his agenda.

The Iranian foreign minister did not make any comment before leaving nor in a short announcement yesterday about his trip, second in a year, to the U.S..

However, observers noted that the visit by Velayati to New York will be eyecatching after general elections in Iran, out of which a moderate president was elected. Whether the Iranian foreign minister will make any secret talks with the U.S. officials on normalization of the bilateral relations is much more interested than his participation in the summit by observers. ...
