The growth rate of the Philippines' agriculture sector reached
4.22 percent during the first quarter of this year, the Philippine
News Agency reported today.
At current prices, this growth rate is translated into a gross
value of 5.44 billion US dollars, indicating an increase of 5.48
percent from last year's level, the report said.
The report quoted Agriculture Secretary Salvador Escudero as
saying the growth rate is a good indicator of being able to attain a
very bullish growth rate of 4.7 percent for 1997 against last year's
growth rate of only 3.9 percent.
