Figures from the Hong Kong Tourist Association (HKTA) showed that
hotel occupancy plummeted to 58 percent in July from its year-ago
level of 87 percent, the local press reported today.
And the decline seemed to forecast a worse hotel occupancy this
year than last year, said HKTA Chairman Lo Yuk-sui.
He blamed the disappointing hotel take-up on the monetary turmoil
in Southeast Asia which resulted in a decline in tourist arrivals
