Netanyahu Opposes Timing of New Housing Project

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said today he opposed
going ahead now with the Jewish housing project at Ras el Amud in
East Jerusalem, which threatens to scuttle the Israeli-Palestinian
peace process.
Speaking at the weekly cabinet meeting today, Netanyahu cited the
bad timing as the reason for his objection to the housing project.
He said Israel was building in Jerusalem, including at Har Homa, in
efforts to "spread our sovereignty over all parts of the city and
strengthen our security presence."
The expansion of Jewish settlement in Har Homa in East Jerusalem,
where the Palestinians want as their future capital, has crippled
the
Middle East peace process since March.
