Leaders of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) will
hold their annual summit in Malawi next week to discuss regional
economic development and security situation.
South African president Nelson Mandela, who assumed SADC's three-
year chairmanship last year, will chair the summit,a foreign ministry
statement issued today in Pretoria said.
The aim of the summit is to discuss general progress in the
community, and to establish strategic positions on the future
direction of the regional body in order to promote regional
integration in southern Africa, the statement said.
Items on the agenda include a declaration on gender equality and a
proposed process of review and rationalisation ...
