Tanzania's tuberculosis (TB) cases have increased sharply as more
attention have been shifted to combat HIV/AIDS infection, according
to a survey by Southern Africa Control Initiative (SATCI).
The survey, made available today, says that at least one third of
Tanzania's TB cases are indirectly attributable to HIV/AIDS
infection. Tanzania is one of the countries where the onslaught on
HIV/AIDS has caused more TB deaths.
The report said Tanzania's TB control program used to serve as a
model in the world for controlling TB effectively with the highest
TB
cure rates from 1977 to 1983.
Matters changed when the country was slammed by the deadly
