Polling for Malaysia's Sabah state election got underway Friday
with 64 polling stations in six of 48 constituencies in the state
open on the first day of the two-day polls, according to reports
reaching here from Sabah's capital Kota Kinabalu.
A total of 13,540 voters out of the state's electorate of 726,690
are eligible to cast their votes Friday, according to an Election
Commission spokesman.
For the remaining voters in 42 other constituencies, polling will
be conducted on Saturday.
A total of 199 candidates are vying for the 48 seats up for grabs
in the state election, regarded as the most intensely fought state
polls.
