Article: Chinese Palace Lanterns Bring Prosperity

Foreign businesspeople and TV crews have been going to Tuntou Village in Gaocheng City in north China's Hebei Province, which is known for its palace lanterns, as the Spring Festival approaches.

All the 1,340 households in the village are involved in palace lantern manufacturing. They have become rich since 1978, when the reform and opening-up in China began, and palace lanterns, a symbol of good luck and prosperity, have become more popular. The village's total lantern output last year was more than 5 million pairs, worth 87 million yuan (10.5 million U.S. dollars).
