Schmidt in Hospital with Sudden Hearing Loss

Helmut Schmidt, 80, the former chancellor of Germany, was in a Hamburg hospital after being operated on Tuesday for sudden hearing loss.

The Deutsche Presseagentur(dpa) reported, Hamburg University Hospital (UKE) disclosed Schmidt had been admitted Friday and doctors had decided that the sudden hearing loss was not coming right on its own. The illness is often treated with bed rest.
