Philippine President Joseph Estrada Saturday refused a proposal
of
creating a new autonomous region in Mindanao, the southern
Philippines, for the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
Speaking on his weekly radio-TV program, Estrada said the
government is already pouring much money into the Autonomous Region
in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) headed by Governor Nur Misuari of the Moro
National Liberation Front (MNLF).
"Right now, we don't have enough funds for ARMM, how much more
with another autonomous region? It would strain our coffers,"

He said his administration will concentrate first on implementing
its programs to develop Mindanao instead of considering the new
