Blood Donors Needed in Hangzhou

Hospitals in Hangzhou have been hit by a sharp decline in blood donors which has resulted in a critical shortage of blood for clinical use.

This follows the introduction of a national law last October which banned commercial batches of blood being used in hospitals, which had previously kept their blood banks topped up.

The problem is rife in China even despite a major promotion to encourage blood donors was launched in 1984 but has been described as having suffered a "sluggish" response.
