G oggles or sunglasses? Ask the pros. Serious skiers will tell you that goggles seal your eyes from wind and snow, are more stable than glasses, and offer added protection in the event of face-to-snow collisions.

Nowadays, goggles feature optics that rival sunglasses, and there are lenses for every condition, from January storms to April sunshine. Steamed- up goggles are largely a thing of the past thanks to new chemical coatings and better ventilation. There are still exceptions, though: if you're hiking, it's a good idea to take them off and put on a pair of sunglasses. And wear them on your head in a steamy bar and they'll be fully fogged before you can say gluhwein.
