Article: Arab League Chief Flies to France for Visit

Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdel-Meguid left here on Monday for Paris on a four-day visit to France.

Speaking to reporters before departure, Abdel-Meguid said that he will meet with French President Jacques Chirac, Prime Minister Lionel Jospin and Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine.

Arab League sources said that Abdel-Meguid will discuss with French leaders and senior officials how to coordinate the Arab-French-European efforts to help push the Middle East peace process forward. Little progress has been made in the peace process since 1996 due to the intransigent policies adopted by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
