Article: U.S. Starts to Build New Embassy in Tanzania

The United States Friday started to build a new embassy in Tanzania one year after the twin bombings in east Africa.

A ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the new embassy was held in an open space in north Dar es Salaam, where U.S. ambassador Rev. Charles Stith used a shovel to turn dirt.

Wearing a construction helmet, Stith said the ceremony marks a new chapter in the history of U.S. presence in Tanzania.

"The new United States Embassy that will go up this site will be a testament to our tenacity in the face of terrorism...and a symbol of our commitment to our relationship with the people of Tanzania," Stith said.
