Article: COMESA to Count-down Free Trade Area Set for; Oct.30 2000

The Common Market for East and Southern Africa (COMESA) is launching various count-down activities among its member states towards a free trade area scheduled for October 31, 2000.

Jerome Ntibarekerwa, Director of Infrastructure Development of the COMESA, told Xinhua in Lusaka Wednesday that the special committee of ministers, which is comprising Kenya, Mauritius, Zambia, Uganda, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Malawi and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has agreed on a number of activities which should be implemented as the count-down to the free trade area.

These activities include: publication of COMESA Tariffs by member states; organization of a COMESA Trade Fair during the extraordinary summit ...
