Article: Ramos Signs Amended Agrarian Reform Law

Philippine President Fidel Ramos Monday signed an agrarian reform bill into law to give more funds to the government's land reform program that will benefit six million farmers nationwide.

The amended Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program of 1998 doubles the amount for the agrarian reform fund from 50 billion pesos (1.25 billion US dollars) to 100 billion pesos (2.5 billion dollars).

It mandates the use of the amount as revolving fund, allowing the farmers' payments for the land they acquired to become part of the fund to be further used for agrarian reform.
