EU Executive Adopts Farm Prices Package

The European Commission, the European Union (EU)'s executive body, Wednesday adopted the farm prices package for the next marketing year.

Under the package, the Commission decided to keep the prices unchanged under the EU's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), which has a budget of 50 billion U.S. dollars each year.

The EU executive adopted the proposal on an initiative from Franz Fischler, European commissioner for agriculture and rural development, noting that it was in line with its desire to freeze agricultural spending in 1999 compared to 1998.
