Eighteen of 31 United Nations relief workers based in Baghdad
were
evacuated to Amman Thursday evening in fear of a possible U.S.
attack
on Iraq.
The relief workers will not return to Baghdad until U.N.
Secretary
General Kofi Annan succeeds in mediating a peaceful settlement for
the crisis over arms inspections in Iraq, U.N. Development Program
official Chu Liu told reporters here.
Annan will arrive in Baghdad on Friday in a last-ditch effort to
defuse the crisis.
The United States has said it will take military actions to force
Iraq to grant full and unfettered access to U.N. arms inspectors in
charge of eliminating Iraq's weapons of mass ...
