Beijing to Launch Human Gene Research Project

Beijing plans to use its abundant scientific resources to develop
a local human gene research project, according to an official with
the Beijing Science and Technology Commission.
The commission has organized a group of academicians from the
China Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the China Engineering Academy
and
renowned scientists from other institutes for in-depth discussions
concerning implementation of the project.
China initiated the major state project known as "Studies on
Several Gene Loci Structures of the Chinese Human Genome" in 1994.
The project has been carried out at a cost of 3.6 million yuan
(430,000 US dollars), according to Du Ruofu, a research professor at
the CAS Institute ...
