Article: Most Book Publishers in Indonesia Facing Difficulties

Of the 480 book publishers in Indonesia, only 200 are still productive due to increasing prices of paper, especially newsprint, following the dramatic fall of the rupiah (national currency), local press reported Thursday.

A discussion on books held here Wednesday concluded that only 200 book publishers can still maintain their production activities. However, unless prices of paper begin to decline immediately, it is estimated that only 100 book publishers will still be active by March this year.
