The Ninth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political
Consultative Conference (CPPCC), which is begin its first session
here tomorrow, has a number of new features.
A total of 2,196 members will attend the session, more than any
previous national committee of the CPPCC.
The formation of the Ninth CPPCC National Committee demonstrates
features of China's patriotic united front work in a new historical
period.
Like those of previous CPPCC national committees, members of the
Ninth CPPCC National Committee come from 34 social quarters. But for
Hong Kong members, the name of their social quarter has now changed
from "Hong Kong Compatriots" to "Specially Invited Personages from
Hong Kong" ...
