Article: More Drought-Related Deaths Reported in Philippines

Eleven more people died in a remote village in the drought- ravaged southern Philippine island of Mindanao last week, bringing to 53 the death toll from the El Nino-induced long dry spell, local newspaper Manila Bulletin said Tuesday.

Presidential assistant for Mindanao Jesus Dureza said the 11 deaths were reported in North Upi Town, Maguindanao Province, one of the worst-hit by the El Nino weather phenomenon in Mindanao.
