U.S. President Bill Clinton is still considering a trip to
Northern Ireland to campaign for a peace accord despite opposition
by
some political leaders there, the White House said on Tuesday.
Clinton is to attend a summit of the Group of Seven leaders and
Russia in Birmingham in Britain in May. U.S. officials had indicated
that he may go to Northern Ireland during the trip.
"We are continuing to hold open that possibility," White House
spokesman Mike McCurry said during a regular briefing on Tuesday.
Clinton has said he will leave it up to the governments to decide
if a trip by him would be helpful and will await their invitation.
