UNEP Urged to Do More in Fresh Water Management

A Chinese delegation Thursday urged the U. N. Environment Program
(UNEP) to play a more active role in the management of global fresh
water resources and make greater contributions to the protection of
these resources.
Speaking at the on-going fifth special session of the UNEP
Governing Council, a Chinese official proposed that an expert group
be established to study the situation of environmental management of
fresh water resources in the world.
The group should put forward policy framework and methodologies
for environmentally sound management of fresh water, the official of
the Chinese delegation added.
