Article: Aussies Sweeps 1-2-3 Spots in World Cup Triathlon

World champion Emma Carney led an Australian sweep of the top three positions in women's event and made it an Australian double with Greg Welch in the opener of the World Cup triathlon in Ishigakijima on Sunday.

Triathlon will make its Olympic debut in the 2000 Games with Carney as the top favourite in Sydney. She clocked two hours three minutes 24 seconds over three categories beating fellow Australians Jackie Gallagher and Michellie Jones.

Carney was only 26th in the first 1.5-kilometre swimming section in 19:41, but she clocked the fastest times in the 40km bike and 10km running sections with 1:07:01 ...
