Article: France Urges Action After "Kosovo Liberation Army" Gains

France on Monday called for international action to prevent the Kosovo conflict spreading after the Kosovo Liberation Army (UCK) took control of over 40 percent of the territory of the Serbian southern province.

"The crisis has changed nature with the taking by the Kosovo Liberation Army of 40 percent of the territory," said French Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Anne Secret-Gazeau.

Paris expected "energetic and immediate action" by the international community, said the spokeswoman.

More than 300 people, including many women, children and the elderly, have died in clashes raging since February between Serb forces and ethnic Albanians majority seeking independence from Belgrade.
