Article: Indian Expert Panel for Curbs on Govt Expenditure

An Indian expert panel on trade and industry in its report submitted to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee recently suggested strict control on the government expenditure and borrowing from financial institutions, a government official said here Wednesday.

The recommendation to cap government finance assumes significance in the wake of predictions by economists that interest rates would jump in the markets, making borrowing expensive if the government had a heavy borrowing program.
