Japanese Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi arrived here Thursday for a
three-day official visit, which aims to strengthen ties between
Japan and Thailand.
Thai Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai and other high-ranking
government officials met Obuchi, the first Japanese prime minister
to visit Thailand in seven years, at the Airforce Airport.
During his visit, Obuchi is expected to hold talks with his Thai
counterpart Chuan Leekpai on issues concerning the World Trade
Organization, the Group-of-Eight (G8) summit and the Association of
Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Obuchi will especially seek Thailand's view on the G8 summit
which will be held on the southern Japanese island of Okinawa in
