Article: Supachai Backs Green Room System in WTO

President of the 10th Session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD X) Supachai supported the "Green Room" system of the World Trade Organization, but called for a more transparent and democratic one.

When "encountering" non-governmental organizations at a sideline meeting of the UNCTAD X, Supachai, who will replace the current Director-General of WTO Michael Moore in two years, said the Green Room, which allows big countries in decision-making process, is practical.

The system, though represents not every country of the 135- member bloc, will be quick in coming into a decision.

"If you go to the General Council, it may take a year to make a decision," he said.
