The worldwide application service provider (ASP) industry is
poised for explosive growth in the next few years, a U.S. market
research firm predicted Wednesday.
According to the study of Dataquest, the market is expected to
grow from 1 billion U.S. dollars in 1999 to 3.6 billion dollars in
2000, and 25.3 billion dollars by 2004.
"The ASP market represents a major computing revolution with the
power to dramatically redraw today's IT ecosystem based on the
delivery of application services over a network," said Dataquest's
report.
"Software licensing models, application and networking
architectures, and vendor strategies will all be impacted greatly.
