Article: Kenya Airways Makes Profits

Kenya Airways has posted a pre-tax of 2.8 billion shillings (about 36.4 million U.S. dollars) for the financial year ending March 2000, the airline's chairman Issac Okero has announced.

Addressing the airline's annual general meeting here Friday, Okero said his airline was among the most profitable organizations during the year, with many others in the industry reporting massive losses, the government-run newspaper Kenya Times reported Saturday.

The management of the airline has embarked on a fleet modernization and expansion program, which will spend more than 750 million dollars in acquiring modern aircraft to compete more favorably in the market, Okero said.
