Article: Urges Protection of Arrested Turkish Cypriot Journalists

The Union of Cyprus Journalists (UCJ) Saturday appealed for the protection of Turkish Cypriot journalists arrested Friday by the Turkish Cypriot regime in the northern island.

The appeal was made to U.N. Secretary-General's Special Representative in Cyprus, the ambassadors of the permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and international media organizations.

In the appeal, the UCJ reported the arrest and disappearance Friday night of Editor-in-Chief of Turkish Cypriot daily "Avrupa" Sener Levent and two or more of his colleagues.

"Avrupa" has been persecuted by the Turkish Cypriot regime because of its views on the Cyprus issue, said the UCJ.
