The Philippines and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea
(DPRK) signed a joint communique here Wednesday, formally
establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The document was signed Wednesday afternoon at the Department of
Foreign Affairs by Philippine Foreign Secretary Domingo Siazon and
DPRK Ambassador to Thailand Jo In Chol.
According to the joint communique, the governments of the two
countries, guided by the principles of the United Nations Charter
and the generally accepted principles of international law, have
agreed to establish diplomatic relations between the two countries
at the ambassadorial level as from the date of signing of the
communique.
