Article: Paper Holds Western Countries Responsible for High Oil Prices

An Iranian newspaper on Tuesday held Western countries responsible for the soaring oil prices in the world market, and urged the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) not to raise oil output under Western pressure.

Western countries as well as their oil giants are more to be blamed for the soaring oil prices than the OPEC member states, commented the English-language daily Tehran Times.

It pointed out that Western countries impose heavy taxes and duties on the imported crude, thus forcing the consumers in these countries to buy fuel at almost twice the price set by oil exporters.
