London's Westminster Council announced Wednesday that it is reinforcing its determination to combat air pollution by testing a new paving block on streets.

The pollution-eating paving stones, pioneered by Mitsubishi Materials Corporation, may be the revolutionary new step to improving air quality in London, the council said.

Targeted at pollution caused by car exhaust fumes, the titanium dioxide-containing paving blocks use sunlight to absorb nitrogen oxides in the atmosphere and converts them into harmless nitrogen and oxygen.
