Article: Global Effort to Raise Allergy Awareness Launched in Sydney

A global effort to raise awareness of allergies was launched in Sydney on Sunday.

October 16 was designated World Allergy Awareness Day by the World Allergy Organization-International Association of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (WAO-IAACI) and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The announcement was made at an international allergy conference in Sydney.

In its inaugural year, World Allergy Awareness Day will focus on allergic rhinitis, or hay fever, which affects one in four Australians and costs the Australian health system 120 million Australian dollars (64.8 million U.S. dollars) annually.
