Article: U.N. Sanctions Committee Meets on Iraq's Euro Switch

The United Nations Sanctions Committee is holding an informal meeting Monday afternoon to further discuss Iraq's request to switch from the U.S. dollar to the euro, the European single currency, for its oil sale accounts.

The decision to accept this request has to be made by the sanctions committee that already discussed the issue at its previous meeting last Tuesday.

Late last week, U.N. Under Secretary-General for Management Joseph Connor sent a letter to Iraq, informing that the U.N. Secretariat was preparing to discuss the practicability of the request and pointing out that the sanctions committee's views on this issue would have to be taken into account.
