The results of a countywide survey confirm what many community
leaders already know: Yakima County needs more living-wage jobs.
The underlying theme of poverty and its host of spinoff social
problems -- from crime to the lack of affordable housing -- are what
Yakima County residents say they are most concerned about.
The Yakima County Community Assessment Project, spearheaded by
the United Way of Yakima County, surveyed roughly 1,700 residents
this past summer. The survey appears to be the most comprehensive
community survey to date that analyzes the quality of life in Yakima
County, officials say.
