The Yakima Housing Authority is tightening its verification procedures after state auditors discovered several families receiving government-funded services based on phony or incomplete information.

One tenant, for example, received rental assistance despite annual earnings $28,275 greater than what she listed in her application, auditors noted. The actual earnings, which could have been confirmed by contacting the employer, made her ineligible for the low-income housing program.
