The Shanghai Sharks failed in their first claim of the regular season title as they lost Sunday to the Jilin Northeast Tigers 126:118, and surrendered the honor to the Bayi Rockets.

The Sharks, who led all the way this season in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league until Sunday's final round, had the best chance to usurp the Rockets, who had been crowned in the regular season for five successive season.

Both teams have lost four games in the 22-round season, collecting 40 points apiece, after the Rockets took an easy victory over the Zhejiang Cyclones on the road, 131-115.

They split their two meetings of the season but the Rockets, who are seeking for their sixth league ...
