Article: More Turkish Cypriots Seek Passports of Republic of Cyprus

In the past four months, there was an increase in the number of Turkish Cypriots who applied to the Cypriot government to acquire Cypriot passports, the Financial Mirror newspaper reported on Wednesday.

According to the report, about 250 Turkish Cypriots have applied for passports from the Republic of Cyprus, either directly to the Cypriot Interior Ministry in Nicosia, or Cypriot embassies abroad.

Last year, the Cypriot government issued passports to 448 Turkish Cypriots.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkish troops invaded and occupied the northern third of the island after a failed coup by the Greek Cypriots seeking union with Greece.
