Article: Chinese Taipei Athletes Leave for East Asian Games

The first group of Chinese Taipei athletes left for Osaka, Japan on Tuesday to compete in the 2001 East Asian Games slated for May 19- 27, Taipei's local media reported.

The first part of the delegation included athletes from soft tennis, bowling, handball and weight-lifting. They will be joined by the men's basketball team, which will fly directly to Osaka from Hong Kong after completing their training in the Chinese mainland.

Headed by Tseng Yung-chuan, vice chairman of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, the 310-strong team was quite low key when asked about its goal for the forthcoming Games.
