The first group of Chinese Taipei athletes left for Osaka, Japan
on Tuesday to compete in the 2001 East Asian Games slated for May 19-
27, Taipei's local media reported.
The first part of the delegation included athletes from soft
tennis, bowling, handball and weight-lifting. They will be joined by
the men's basketball team, which will fly directly to Osaka from
Hong Kong after completing their training in the Chinese mainland.
Headed by Tseng Yung-chuan, vice chairman of the Chinese Taipei
Olympic Committee, the 310-strong team was quite low key when asked
about its goal for the forthcoming Games.
